Alan Chartock talks about Unity 08 with Doug Bailey, a political consultant for President Gerald Ford and co-founder of the movement, and noted actor Sam Waterston, one of the group’s supporters.
According to the group's website, "Unity08 is a diverse group of Americans who believe that neither of today’s parties reflects the aspirations, concerns or will of the majority of Americans. Both parties have polarized and alienated voters. Both are unduly influenced by single-issue groups. Both are excessively dominated by money."
The stated goal of Unity 08 is to try and shake up both the Democratic and Republican parties and send them a message in the next presidential election. The group wants to create a Unity Ticket for the 2008 presidential race consisting of a Democrat and Republican.
