Alan Chartock Interviews Dr. Joseph B. Moore

Dr. Joseph MooreDr. Moore has led Empire State College since 2000. With a system of distributed locations across the state, and Centers for Distance Learning, Graduate Programs, and International Programs, Empire State College students remain in their communities as they earn their degrees.

Before coming to Empire State College, Dr. Moore was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Mansfield University. He led the efforts of the university to develop collaborative partnerships with other organizations, including community colleges, business and industry, and the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining Mansfield University in 1996, Dr. Moore served for seven years as director of planning and academic affairs in the chancellor’s office of the Vermont State Colleges.

Dr. Moore received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s degree in English from the University of New Hampshire. He earned his doctorate in educational administration from the University of Vermont, and was a 1999 participant in the Institute for Educational Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
